"Vida, a powerful samodiva, a female nymph, of the Pirin mountains, accidentally shot and killed the beautiful male singer, Ivë. When she saw what she had done, she cried a single tear, which formed an enchanted lake." - Myth of Vida's Tear Lake

Maga Ioanna

Description

Ioanna has a slightly willowy build and delicate facial features. She appears to be in her 50's, with long grey hair tied behind her head, but only a few wrinkles have started to appear on her otherwise smooth, olive skinned complexion. She dresses in a pale blue, woollen robe embroidered with serpents and astrological signs upon the hem lines and the sleeves. Her cloak is made of fine wool and lined with dark blue silk.

Personality

Clearly a confident and ambitious woman, she carries a natural pride and authority which few amongst the covenant would seek to question. Her consortis is the captain of the turb, and she has obviously earned his loyalty and trust over the years. She, in turn, seems very loyal to the covenant and most concerned with its continued independence from Tribunals and its growth and development. There is also a slightly reckless side to Ioanna, and the Captain has had to remind her many times over the years not to venture off without a grog escort.

Magic

Without the protection of the Parma, Ioanna's gift manifests itself by a subtle feeling of being manipulated or lied to. She is highly skilled with mentem magics, and even magi find it difficult to believe that she does not treat with them for ulterior motives. She makes no secret of the fact that her spells can be ended instantly by her will, nor that her magics tend to endure longer than one would typically expect. Her sigil expresses itself through flickers of orange light; like the aura given off by Mentem vis.

Current views on the other magi

  • Maga Mestitia
  • This Merinitan seems very different from many that I've met in the past; and I don't just mean her unusual appearance! She seems far less whimsical and effete than many of her house, doesn't appear too enamoured with the fae and treats the world with a strong measure of distrust and suspicion. Quite admirable traits, I'd say! She might even live long enough to be of some use to the covenant!
  • Magus Gelidus
  • With all the enemies in our vicinity, we'd be foolish indeed to not seek out a member of House Flambeau to join our number. Gelidus favours Perdo over Ignem, and the difference in character, compared to those fiery magi, is immediately noticeable. As his arts develop he will become a great asset to this covenant and its defences; and the many challenges which exist beyond our walls will hopefully temper him into strong steel.
  • Magus Laertes
  • Laertes was something of an imposition upon this covenant. When we sought new members, we needed the assistance of the Red Caps and their cooperation was bought by allowing a newly gauntleted member of House Tremere to reside here. He seems capable and self-reliant, and appears to be willing to try to cooperate rather than attempt to dominate his sodales. But, my trust in him will always be uncertain - for he is, at the last, more loyal to his House than to his Covenan
  • Magus Lucca
  • We were most fortunate to head-hunt this young Verditius. The presence of a crafter and a skilled enchanter will help ensure the strength of this covenant in the years to come. Hopefully his arts and skills will develop sufficiently, in time, so that he can create improved longevity rituals for Hristo and myself.
  • Magus Loquellamedes
  • I am still a little uncertain what role this unusual magus will eventually play within the covenant. However, he appears to have a most remarkable capability for words and might eventually make a fine writer and teacher. He seems a bit lost in his own world, but perhaps will have a greater role within the covenant's development than I first expected.
  • Magus Hristo
  • Good old Hristo. For all his bad temper and secretive reclusion, he has been the backbone and prime defender of this covenant for many years - and I would have died at least twice without his timely intervention. I can't imagine this place without him, and he knows - despite all my teasing - that I have great respect and even fondness for him.
