"Vida, a powerful samodiva, a female nymph, of the Pirin mountains, accidentally shot and killed the beautiful male singer, Ivë. When she saw what she had done, she cried a single tear, which formed an enchanted lake." - Myth of Vida's Tear Lake

Maga Mestitia

Description

When outside her sanctum Mestitia dresses in a voluminous grey woollen cloak, the hood of which contains a veil which falls to the bridge of her nose. She wears a well-made woollen robe of pale grey with a simple embroidered design of dark leaves and branches intertwined upon the hem and sleeves. Beneath this cloak and hood she is almost impossibly thin, with spidery long fingers, skinny arms and legs. If she removes the hood and veil, she reveals a single, cyclopean eye.

Personality

Though generally quiet and polite, there is an edge to Mestitia which those skilled in reading people will recognise as someone potentially dangerous to cross. Perhaps due to her strong faerie blood, she can be subtle and vengeful to those she feels have insulted her. She seems curious, but bemused by mundane society and is outspoken in her strong dislike of all manner of religion, particularly the Church.

Magic

The gift that washes around Mestitia is clearly influenced by the faerie aspect of her nature. Related to the Likho, a spirit of misfortune, mundanes that encounter her simply feel like she is bad luck. The sigil of her spells reflects this; milk sours, babies start to cry, food tastes slightly rotten in her vicinity when she casts her spells. In terms of her arts, she is fairly generalist; though her formulaic magic is particularly flexible and she can exert herself to grant her spells more strength. However, her spontaneous magic - perhaps also due to her faerie nature - is particularly unreliable; often creating effects that are beyond her control.

Current views on the other magi

  • Magus Laertes
  • My first impression of Laertes is a man with a purpose and ambition. He seems ever so practical and organised, though I wonder whether he will turn into more of a bully if he is ever denied what he wants. In the meantime, he seems eminently prepared to cooperate with others, and if this is truly his character I can see him being a boon to this covenant.
  • Magus Lucca
  • This mild-mannered Verditius appears to love the act of creation so much, that he has a daughter! Beyond this surprising fact, though, he seems amiable and honest enough. Behind this I do start to sense a burning ambition, which may yet drive him to create great items and enchantments in the future. The elders clearly have ambitions for him as well; I wonder how they will react if his interests do not match their need?
  • Magus Gelidus
  • Our pale-skinned Flambeau is not the violent or impulsive brute that I had been led to believe was ubiquitous to this House. He is formal and restrained, but I already get the feeling that it would be a mistake to earn his enmity. I quite like him. But, more than that, I'm very glad he's on our side!
  • Magus Loquellamedes
  • This sun brazened, foreigner appears quiet and mostly private. He has spent more time than any of us learning the local language, and was willing to assist Lucca in the laboratory to extract vis for the covenant aegis; an act that suggests to me both a pleasant humility and a trusting side to his character.
  • Maga Ioanna
  • For all the talk of equality, Ioanna is obviously the one in charge of day-to-day running of the covenant. She takes great pains to appear reasonable and approachable, yet I suspect ulterior motives drive any acts of generosity this woman is capable of. I quite respect that, and I'm curious to discover what plans she really has for us all.
  • Magus Hristo
  • This reclusive Bjornear is grumpy and impatient with just about everyone, even Ioanna. However, I see that he own books of art in Creo and Corpus and many spells for healing. In which case, he is someone I will be forced to have dealings with from time to time; though clearly he does not enjoy such interaction with others.
